Chickens moved

Well, like you saw a hint of in the last post, the chickens FINALLY got moved!  What happened? The “simple fix-up” turned out to be a total re-model when the old coop fell apart.

New cement floor, then framing….

Water connected.

Wood chips down.

Feeder hung.

Ready to move from the tractor.

Turns out you can fit 4 chickens in a small dog kennel. I knew I kept this around for some reason!

I think they were happy to get out of that carrier.

“I wonder what’s out there?”

When they’re ready to start laying (several more months), their nesting boxes are ready.

They seem to be settling in, getting used to the outside run, learning to come in at night for chicken scratch, enjoying scratching through hay, fruits and vegetables outside.

Now, all I have to do is figure out how to answer Marley’s question.

Marley, “Why? Why chickens??? I think sheep should have been enough!”
